Hey y'all! Today is all about the laundry room! I'm sure any mother can relate, but as a mother of 5 myself I have to say, the laundry room is definitely one of the most important rooms in the house!

Functionality may be the most important thing here, but at the same time I spend a lot of time in here. I wanted something pretty and something relaxing, and absolutely NO clutter! The kids would just throw their shoes in here, literally a mountain of shoes I would have to climb to throw some clothes in to the wash. Now that the floor is done, I think I finally got through to them that, that is no longer happening.

When we first bought the house, the space wasn't terrible. It was just kind of dark and I struggled reaching anything I put on that shelf. So functionally, not working for me.
I started by taking that shelf down. And then I painted, and I'll be honest my first go in the laundry room, I cheated. I literally only painted what could be reached without moving the washer and dryer. I'm not sure what made me so nervous about moving them.
I mean, you can't really tell...aside from the dent I made on the dryer trying to reach behind it. Gah! Oops...

And, as you can see in the painted photo the floor isn't done. We ran out of flooring. I ordered more and shoved the box of flooring to the side for MONTHS! Probably why my lovely children had no problem boobie trapping the place.
From here I had some left-over distressed shiplap from another project we did and thought where better to go than an accent wall in the laundry room?!!

My extra shiplap didn't go down quite as far as I'd have liked, but once I put stuff on that shelf my oldest son Houstan and I put up, you couldn't tell so I could live with it.
I really didn't have a plan for in here yet at this point, other rooms weren't even started on so it kind of became where I stored paint and hung-up my signs just so they weren't stuck in a closet.

It stayed like this for a little while, until I again I had left overs from another project and thought "Huh! I bet have enough to do the whole room!"
What I had was several planks we'd cut from a 4X8 sheet of Mahogony. At first glance this wood seems very cheap and flimsy. But quite honestly, I LOVE IT! Literally our entire house will eventually be this faux shiplap. Yes, it's harder to line up than your standard tongue and groove, but that isn't in our budget. And that's what's so beautiful about the farmhouse style to me, things don't have to be perfect! It's perfectly imperfect and with a house full of kids, dogs, and cats...eh, and a husband, perfectly imperfect is perfect!!
I don't have a picture of the 4X8 sheet, the precut boards, or even a stack of them, just the pieces there on the washer, but I will try really hard to remember to get that during our next project. We've started working in the living room but again, I am the absolute worst at before pictures. But the Mohogany sheets had been cut down to 6" strips. And I'll be honest I don't even bother with spacing. I've seen so many say they use nickels or quarters in between each plank, and I had started with that in our hallway, but I really didn't see much of a difference between ones with spacers and ones without. Plus hanging most of it by myself it was hard to hold with keeping the spacers in place and nailing it up. So, I now skip it and personally I think it still looks great!
Next, we got to painting and I absolutely love how these two always want to help me with this part. I couldn't sleep this night just thinking of all that was left. I got up and made some coffee at like 11 and then Emmett and I primed until about 2 in the morning. Emma took over around 7 when we got up and put the actual paint on.
