Room by Room: Kid's Bathroom

This is probably my favorite room of the house so far. It may be small, likely the smallest full bathroom I've ever been in, but it makes up for it in all its cuteness.

What we started with was kind of just a dark cave. There's no window, so no natural light coming in and it was a medium tan/brown color.

We started by clearing everything out, removing all the trailer strips on the wall, and taking out the vanity.

The vanity was pretty interesting. While taking it apart to remove it, we found a squirrel's nest underneath it!! Oh, my goodness!! Don't get me wrong I LOVE squirrels, but I'd rather animals not be making a home inside my home unannounced and uninvited. Plus, if a squirrel can get in .... what else am I going to find?!! Not even going to lie, I was so nervous ripping out the last of that! Houstan ended up taking over for me and then, I may or may not have gone a tiny bit overboard on the pest resistant foam.

Now that I again felt save, we were able to move along. In here I used the same faux shiplap as we have everywhere else in the house. 4X8 Mahogany sheets cut down into 6" x 8' strips. But we changed it up in here. After my husband cut the wood for me, I cut them to 63" and installed them vertically after hanging 26" along the top of the wall with wallpaper.

After getting the shiplap installed, I finished it off with just a 1x4 across the top. I used 1x6's for the baseboards. And then I got to painting. Two coats Kilz and just one coat Valspar Showcase in Benjamin Moore's White Dove.

Peel and stick tile was added next. Peel and stick options have really come along way!! They're absolutely gorgeous and hold up really well. I just may not be the best at cutting them. But we're planning on getting a new toilet anyway, so I'll redo that little section when the toilet is out of the way.

Next: the new vanity.

Then the finishing touches. Floating shelves and decor.
